August 2026. Professor Phil Stern to visit as a 2026 Meigunyah Fellow

Professor Stern is the author of Empire, Incorporated: The Corporations that Built British Colonialism.His work focuses on various aspects of the legal, political, intellectual, and business histories that shaped the British Empire, including the role of companies and corporations in colonial enterprise, overseas exploration and cartography, the historiography of British India, early modern economic thought, and digital and data visualization approaches to the problem of colonial sovereignty. We are delighted to have him visit, and will publish more details, including exact dates, in the coming months.

Professor Stern is the 2026 Miegunyah Distinguished Visiting Fellow. The Miegunyah Fellowship invites internationally distinguished scholars for an extended visit to the University of Melbourne, enriching the University’s academic, intellectual and cultural life. The program is made possible through the generous support of the Russell and Mab Grimwade Miegunyah Fund.
