The Academic Skills Circle (TASC)

A collaboration between Sundhya Pahuja at the LPGCIL, the Institute for International Law and the Humanities (IILAH) at Melbourne Law School, the UNSW Critique Network of Professor Ben Golder, and La Trobe International and Comparative Law Cluster co-led by Dr Kathleen Birrell.

The skills circle is back for 2023. Online – 1pm on selected Thursdays or Fridays, once a month.

The ‘Skills Circle’ is modelled on the knitting circle, which brings knitters of all levels of experience together into a room to knit, and while they do so, to share ideas and techniques, and to experience the camaraderie of a shared activity. The skills circle will be held monthly on Thursdays during the Australian teaching term at either 1pm (AEST), or 8am (AEST) to accommodate international guests.

Topics for 2023 include Doing Archival Research, Pushing through writer's block, and Using film as a medium for research.

We invite scholars of all levels, from PhD students and early career researchers, to mid and late career researchers who want to share their knowledge, or watch how other people do things to reflect upon their own methods. Sessions will be kept small to allow for good conversation. They will also be entirely online and recorded for the IILAH and LPGCIL podcasts.
